Today, virtualization is a widely used technology to improve the efficiency and ensure availability of IT resources and application. This service line supports the automated datacenters of Colruyt that are built on VMware vSphere platform which lets us respond to business dynamics faster and more efficiently by delivering resources, applications and servers on demand - when and where they’re needed.
StorageBasically, there are two main aspects of this service - Data Backups and Data Storage (SAN)
Whether it comes to returning to the "agreed" level of operations after a disaster or just to extract an older version of a file, data backups are integral part of operations today. This service line takes care of the managing the backup infrastructure through Veritas Netbackup.
A storage area network (SAN) is an architecture to attach remote computer data storage devices (such as disk arrays, tape libraries, and optical jukeboxes) to servers so that the devices appear as locally attached to the operating system. At Colruyt IT, the production data is actually stored and replicated across the redundant storage boxes (that can hold terabytes of data) across two sites in Halle to ensure 100% failover when a disaster strikes. This service line monitors the SAN infrastructure and acts as a first level of escalation points when there is any event that needs to be taken care of.
Secadmin (Security Administration)Secadmin team is responsible for all user administration/maintenance and provide access to various resources spread across different platforms which includes windows, mainframe, Linux & etc. It acts as first point of contact for all IT security related matters.
IT OperationsOperations team plays a vital role in monitoring the Syst (pre production) environment which includes external and in-house developed software/applications, hardware equipment, databases of open system and mainframes. This team is also responsible for catalogue promotion on mainframe production environment & monitoring shop servers spread across Belgium there by ensure minimal/no impact to business.
Help DeskCI Help Desk acts as the first point of contact for all IT related problems/issues for all employees & contract staff. Provide solutions with the help of in-house developed Solution tool and re-direct the incident to concerned departments in case if not resolved in the first level. Make Follow-up's with respective teams and update status to end user which attains customer satisfaction in all aspects.
LFS (Local Field Service)LFS team is responsible for all desktop administration activities. This support team is mainly involved in troubleshooting technical problems by their physical presence at the user desk or with remote assistance sometimes.
Operation Analysts; Job Scheduling AdministrationBatch processing is execution of a series of programs ("jobs") without end user interaction. The Job Schedulers are responsible for scheduling various batch programs / processes using some unique tools like Control-M. A large section of the applications in Colruyt are executed through batch.
Most of the job scheduling at Colruyt deal with data warehousing, PeopleSoft, Internet Databases, Business Object Reports, mailing, java applications, etc. This team has a vital role in the infrastructure as a large part of the business uses the output of the batch.
The knowledge involved in this domain is not restricted, but exposed to working on a cross-section of technologies.
